For my family who is wondering, and anyone else who cares.
School is going very well. They worked us hard and broke us down the first week.(We know who's in charge!) I'm in Platoon B, Company 68, and my Call Sign is 631. We are on the line in the mornings for inspection, and even though it says class ends at 430pm, the earliest we've left is 5pm. Mornings are also something I am now familiar with. We have daily's that must be completed before we are on the line.
I spent today driving trucks out at a training course and actually got to drive Engine 4 (big pumper truck) home from the site. Things become tricky on local streets with other cars around. Tomorrow my Platoon is back out driving with a whole new set of courses and challenges. They don't give us much information about what's coming. You're forced to learn now and learn fast!
I completed rope rescue practices, which is good because I'm told we need to trust those knots and systems when we go off the side of a hotel here in town. The practical exam was recovering a subject from who was 6 floors below us and we couldn't use the stairs. I was placed as team leader, which is scary because the fate of the other 7 on my team ultimately rested on my shoulders. My team did great and we pass on our first attempt. The individual practical component of knots and decent systems, haul systems, and webbing also went well.
All in all they work us hard, we are forced to learn a lot and learn it quickly but after 5 years of school I finally found one I like!
Take care everyone,
Brandon Blair, 631
